Atheism and Morality vs. Christianity and Morality

What I see most often is that Christians have a negative view on Atheism. They believe that if you are an Atheist then you must be immoral. After all, how does anyone that doesn't believe in God and The Bible have any morals? As crazy as this might sound, it's not their fault. They have been told that Atheism is bad since they were children, as I was. I was always under the impression that if you were an Atheist then you must worship Satan. I know that's not true now but many people don't.

The idea that Atheists have no morals is ridiculous. No one gets their morals from The Bible, or at least I hope that no one does and will explain why at the end. Morality comes from within. If it is in your nature to be a good person and do good things then that is part of who you are. Same goes for those that do bad things. If you look at the statistics of those willing to give their religious affiliations in prison, only 0.07% of the prison population is made up of Atheists, while the rest are Christians, Muslims, etc. If Atheists are so evil, how could this be? Many Christians may argue that they're not 'real' Christians but that is not for them to judge. Maybe they thought they were doing bad things for good reasons, as many religious people do. Take the 16th and 17th century England, for instance. Many people were tortured, burned, hanged, etc. and it was mostly due to religion. How can people not see that we have evolved since then, even, and not because of The Bible. The Bible is what inspired these horrific acts in the first place.

In my opinion, Atheists are maybe even more moral than Christians and other religions. I say this because, as Atheists, we do good because it is the right thing to do and not because we are trying to win a spot in Heaven or suck up to God.

I just want people from all religions to see that, just because we don't believe in any God, we are not bad people and do not have bad intentions. We just want what is best for this nation, we want Scientific advancement to go as far as it can possibly go and that cannot be achieved when people just give up because The Bible says so. I want to remind everyone again that The Bible is JUST a book and written in a primitive point of view, in a time where they never dreamed that we would have the technology that we have today.
As promised before. A list of reasons NOT to get your morality from The Bible:

1. Infanticide: Matthew 2:16 Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.

Exodus 1:16 and he said, "When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live."

2. Genocide: Isaiah 14:21 - Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

3. Slavery: Exodus 21:7-11 NLT When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are.  If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.  But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her.  And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter.  If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife.  If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.

4. If you work on Sunday, you deserve to die: Exodus 35:2 Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.

5. God is worse than Satan: Numbers 31:17-18 Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves.

By the standards of The Bible, 99.9% of people would qualify for the death penalty. Is that really where you want to get your morality from? The God of the Bible is far worse than Satan is even described to be, how can people not see that? The God of The Bible would not be worth worshiping even if he did exist. According to this next verse, handicapped people should be shunned:

Leviticus 21:17-23 KJV Whosoever … hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God. For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous, Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded, Or crookback, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken … He shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries. The list goes on and on. I know that people like to 'cherry pick' verses but if you believe in The Bible then you believe in this nonsense by default, regardless of what you say. Who cares if it was the Old Testament or New Testament? The point is that it is there, period.

Again, is this really where you want your morals to come from? Thanks to anyone who is reading.

The Many Names of Jesus Christ - Stories that Pre-Date The Bible

For those that do not know, there are many stories that pre-date The Bible that have nearly identical stories. I am going to briefly go through some of them to try and show that the idea of The Bible was not a new one. There were many stories written before that particular book with the same storyline. Should they be taken as truth, as well?

1. Dionysus- Born on the 25th of December as 'The Holy Child'. He was placed in a manger, like Jesus. He rode an 'ass' and preformed miracles. Dionysus was killed and eaten ritualistically. He was considered the “Only Begotten Son,” Savior,” “Redeemer,” “Sin Bearer,” Anointed One,” and the “Alpha and Omega.” He rose from the dead on March 25th.

2. Zoroaster/Zarathustra- Born of a virgin by 'immaculate conception by a ray of divine reason'. As a boy he astounded wise men with his wisdom and was baptized in a river. He taught about heaven and hell, and revealed mysteries, including resurrection, judgment, salvation and the apocalypse. He cast out demons and restored the sight of a blind man. Followers expected a “second coming” in the virgin-born Saoshynt or Savior, who is to come in 2341 AD and begin his ministry at age 30, ushering in a golden age.

3. Odysseus- Homeric tales about Odysseus emphasize his suffering life, just as in Mark Jesus said that he, too, would suffer greatly. Odysseus is a carpenter like Jesus, and he wants to return his home just as Jesus wants to be welcomed in his native home and later to God’s home in Jerusalem. Odysseus is plagued with unfaithful and dim-witted companions who display tragic flaws. They stupidly open a magic bag of wind while Odysseus sleeps and release terrible tempests which prevent their return home. These sailors are comparable to Jesus’ disciples, who disbelieve Jesus, ask foolish questions, and show general ignorance about everything. It’s amazing that either Odysseus or Jesus ever manage to accomplish anything, given the companions they have, but this simply demonstrates the power and ability of the one true leader who has a divine mandate to lead the people out of darkness and into a brighter future.

There are many more stories like these out there. I just wanted to give an example of some of them, but you get the idea. Again, I ask why these stories are not taken literally, while The Bible is? How can you believe that there is a supernatural being in a not so supernatural world? If you really think about it, it's non-sense. It's just not logical and down-right delusional. If you don't believe me, look for yourself. Make sure that what you are believing in is the truth. You do not have believe in this bullshit just because everyone else does. If you do continue to believe, even with the mountains of evidence there is to the contrary, please don't force it upon your kids. When they get old enough, let them decide what is right for them. Even though I am an Atheist I do not force my views on my daughter and I never will. Thanks for reading! Please visit The Atheist Goddess on Facebook and like! My Favorite Christian Argument

This is one of my favorite Christian arguments, personal experience. I have never, and will never, understand why they consider a personal story of theirs proof of God's existence. That may be 'proof' to them but why would they think that it is proof to anyone else? Take the story above, for instance. There are many ways to explain away every point made in it. The fact is, when people are looking for something they usually find it. Especially at a time of loss. The person above wanted to believe that their loved one was 'in a better place', therefore she found signs of this. Let's go through them:

1. A statement. "I'm going to see Jesus today. I'm going to fly right through that window and straight up to heaven."

Hallucinations are apart of the 'active phase' of dying and are very common. The dying may also state that they are going to die.

2. After taking the tinfoil off of the window they noticed the sun was shining through the clouds, letting them know she had 'made it to heaven'.

I do not like to take away from anyone's experience, however, if you are going to use your experience in a debate then you are basically throwing it out there to be questioned. The fact that the sun was shining through the clouds on a partly cloudy day is nothing unusual. The explanation is very simple. The clouds simply moved, as clouds often do.

Christians finding comfort in death is not really an issue. The issue is that they use this comfort to try and get everyone else to believe their fairy tales. It is clear in the above photo that this is what this person was trying to do, but even that's not the real issue. The real issue is at the end, when she says that the person she is talking to will go to Hell because they don't believe. Christians threaten everyone with eternal torment, yet they claim that Atheists are the villains. Are they so delusional that they do not see how hypocritical they can be? If you are going to have your beliefs then keep them to yourself. The fact that you don't is one of the issues Atheists have with Christians. Christianity is basically forced down everyone's throat, with a side dish of Hell if you don't comply. Will it ever end?

Please take a minute to go over and Like The Atheist Goddess on Facebook, it would be greatly appreciated! Once there are more fans I will begin posting there more. =)

FAQ by Christians Vol. 1

I wanted to devote a series to the stupid questions that Atheists are asked by Christians. I will start with one of my favorites.

If there's no God then why want to live at all? What's the point? Why don't all you Atheists just die?

Okay, that was more than one question but they are all related. I really want to start out by asking my own question. How does being a Christian make your life any more valuable than mine? "I have a life of morality and purpose", they sometimes say. Would Christians not still have morals if not for God? Why do you have the misconception that you can't have morals without God? If God is the only thing stopping you from murdering and raping people then you need a mental evaluation. If it takes worshiping an imaginary person to give your life meaning then I don't want my life to have any meaning. I want to live out the rest of my time, knowing that I had better do all the living that I am going to do, because this life is it. Atheists know that when we die that is it. There is no Heaven or Hell, only nothingness. I imagine that it is the same as it was before you were born, you simply won't know. If anything, not believing in God or Heaven makes your life that much more valuable.

I wanted to address the last part separately. I have heard Christians say that they wish that all Atheists were gone from the planet. Well where fuck would you Christians be if all Atheists were gone? 93% or more of Scientists are Atheists, so what would become of you if they were gone? I just want to leave you to ponder that for yourselves. Nearly all of the greatest minds in the world are Atheists but instead of taking their word for it they choose Christianity, only because it's the popular choice. Christians have actual Scientists telling them that there is no God but still they take the word of a fictional book that wasn't even written by God. So basically, they are taking the word of primitive, less educated people over the word of someone who knows their shit. Nice logic.
Comment your thoughts, share and all that good shit.

West Virginia School Forced to Remove a Memorial for Teacher Joann Christy by FFRF

Apparently Christians are butt-hurt because of a complaint that parts of a memorial, in remembrance of teacher, Joanne Christy, should be removed. The memorial contained crosses and angels which made it in violation of the 1st Amendment. The school has agreed to remove the crosses but will be keeping the angels as a way to remember her. This is a basic summary of the story. Now here is where the stupidity comes in- at the end, it is mentioned that the Atheists had a problem with the crosses yet didn't mind that their mascot was a 'Devil'. I know what you Christians are thinking, "AHA! The hypocrisy!". If you are a Christian and this is your feelings then you would be very wrong. Merely seeing a Devil as a mascot is not going to make anyone want to worship God. If anything, it would make you want to run in the other direction. It is also not really a symbol of Christianity, unlike angels or the cross. Do you know of anyone that hangs Satan above their bed as they would either of the objects that are in dispute? Of course you don't. Satan does not promote religion. Better luck next time!

Christians seem to live by the double-standard that it is okay to promote Christianity and prayer in schools but not okay to promote Atheism, or any other religion, for that matter. It's time they get off their high horses and realize that we are not going to stand for their bullshit anymore. This is about more than being right or wrong, at this point, and I'm really glad to see people are finally taking a stand against the monstrosity we call religion.

How I Became an Atheist

"Your ignorance of Scientific knowledge is NOT proof of God."

I thought I would start this adventure by telling everyone a little bit about myself, and how I came to realize that there is no God.

This story begins when I was born. It starts there because I was born in a small town, a very religious, small town, in Kentucky. I lived in a town that had nearly as many churches as people, so I was destined to be a Christian. My mom and dad were no longer together but I remember visiting him on the weekends and sitting in the pews most Sundays. Like most children, raised by God-fearing parents, I was told that if I didn't do exactly what God wanted me to do then I would burn in Hell for eternity, and I very much believed that.

I eventually stopped visiting my father, because despite him being a Christian, he was also a drunk. I would love to tell you more about the amazing person that he was but we will save that for a future post. Anyway, my maternal side of the family were still Christians but they did not attend church. Since I was still afraid of an eternity in hell, I had to find another way to go, so I did. I became friends with a girl that lived down the road and started going to church with her. It was not the same faith that I had been used to but that didn't matter, so long as I had a way to worship God. This went on for several years, until I finally realized that I didn't need church in order to worship God. There was nothing I could do at church (other than give them my money) that I couldn't do at home.

I continued to fear God for a long time. Even when I would do the least little thing wrong, I would pray for his forgiveness. After all, I had been told that I would burn in Hell's everlasting fire if I didn't. This went on for many years, even into adulthood.

Several years ago, I began to question God. Why would an all-powerful God allow so much suffering? Why are people starving? Why are people homeless? The list goes on and on. I know there are many bullshit, Christian excuses for these things but I don't buy any of them. I then became an Agnostic. It wasn't until I found out that my mom had converted to Atheism, that I, too, decided to do some research. I had no idea, until then, that there was an Atheist community on the internet. I didn't really even know what Atheism was all about. I was always taught that Atheists were Satan worshipers, because that is a part of the brain washing process of Christianity.

The research and an open mind was all that it took to convince me that God is as real as Santa Claus. When you open your mind to the possibility that The Bible is JUST a story and look this shit up for yourself, you realize that Science is more logical than a magical man in the sky. The freedom from this was indescribable. It was freedom unlike any other. Not because I wanted to sin, but because I no longer had to worry about God and Hell.

Religious freedom is not a reality for children. Kids growing up in a religious household do not get a choice. That is one, of many things, that separates most Atheists from Christians. I have a 5 year old daughter and I would never tell her what to believe. It's not fair to them. It is mentally abusive to tell your child that they will burn in hell for eternity. It makes me sad to think that kids are subjected to this because there parents are too fucking ignorant to realize that God is nothing more than an imaginary friend. God isn't really even a friend, either, if you think about it. God isn't even good. He is cruel and vengeful. Even if he was real he would not be worth worshiping.

This story is merely one piece of my fucked up life. I wanted to tell it first, in hopes that it reaches someone.
