My Favorite Christian Argument
This is one of my favorite Christian arguments, personal experience. I have never, and will never, understand why they consider a personal story of theirs proof of God's existence. That may be 'proof' to them but why would they think that it is proof to anyone else? Take the story above, for instance. There are many ways to explain away every point made in it. The fact is, when people are looking for something they usually find it. Especially at a time of loss. The person above wanted to believe that their loved one was 'in a better place', therefore she found signs of this. Let's go through them:
1. A statement. "I'm going to see Jesus today. I'm going to fly right through that window and straight up to heaven."
Hallucinations are apart of the 'active phase' of dying and are very common. The dying may also state that they are going to die.
2. After taking the tinfoil off of the window they noticed the sun was shining through the clouds, letting them know she had 'made it to heaven'.
I do not like to take away from anyone's experience, however, if you are going to use your experience in a debate then you are basically throwing it out there to be questioned. The fact that the sun was shining through the clouds on a partly cloudy day is nothing unusual. The explanation is very simple. The clouds simply moved, as clouds often do.
Christians finding comfort in death is not really an issue. The issue is that they use this comfort to try and get everyone else to believe their fairy tales. It is clear in the above photo that this is what this person was trying to do, but even that's not the real issue. The real issue is at the end, when she says that the person she is talking to will go to Hell because they don't believe. Christians threaten everyone with eternal torment, yet they claim that Atheists are the villains. Are they so delusional that they do not see how hypocritical they can be? If you are going to have your beliefs then keep them to yourself. The fact that you don't is one of the issues Atheists have with Christians. Christianity is basically forced down everyone's throat, with a side dish of Hell if you don't comply. Will it ever end?
Please take a minute to go over and Like The Atheist Goddess on Facebook, it would be greatly appreciated! Once there are more fans I will begin posting there more. =)
